This US History II lesson created by Ms. Maria De Pippo exposes students to primary source excerpts written by World War I soldiers describing military technologies of the era. Ms. De Pippo has modified the curriculum to support the level 3 ELLs in her classroom by planning and front-loading tiered vocabulary, and incorporating strategies like the 7-Step Vocabulary Process, Partner Reading (with pre-planned cooperative groupings), a Vocabulary Roundtable, Cut and Grow, and Sentence Frames for writing. Ms. De Pippo also utilized visuals of the technology and weapons used in WWI to further support and engage her ELLs.
