In this great cross-curricular lesson that highlights reading across the disciplines, 7th Grade Science teacher Joshua Segaloff instructs students on how to read and learn from informational texts. Mr. Segaloff utilizes the double-entry journal strategy to help students monitor what they are learning from the text and take useful notes. To help ELLs learn and retain effectively tiered vocabulary, he uses the 7-Step Vocabulary Process, a Word Wheel, Sentence Frames, and a Word Bank. The lesson also makes use of think alouds, partner reading, diverse cooperative groupings, and teacher modeling.
